When it comes to a beer and strain pairing, summer is time for a refreshing and relaxing combination that allows you to enjoy the outdoors – something calming, but that won’t have you falling asleep on the beach and waking up with terrible sunburn. Maybe something good for stress, but also on the lighter side so you won’t blow off that hike you’ve been planning.

For this week’s pairing we are combining the indica dominant hybrid Berry White with anotherSierra Nevada beer. This time we are going to try out Sierra Nevada’s Old Chico Crystal Wheat, a beer that breaks out of the craft beer norm to mix high quality with high drinkability. This pairing is fun and easygoing, and great for almost any occasion.
American craft brewers have established a reputation for gravitating towards big flavors - bold, floral hops, or deep roasted maltiness both appear regularly in American offerings - especially here on the west coast. Certain historical styles offered new territory to explore for craft brewers since their rise in the late 70s and 80s. The most prominent style of which is the popular India Pale Ale (IPA), a style that is available coast to coast in the United States and is arguably the favorite style of the American craft beer world.
There’s nothing like a high quality beer or wine to highlight the taste, and compliment the effects, of a great strain of cannabis. Just like pairing food with beer or wine, the right combination of beer and cannabis will bring out the nuances in the aroma of both your drink, and your strain that you might miss otherwise. Furthermore, the relaxing effects of alcohol and hops can round-out and mellow the stimulating effects of your chosen cannabis strain, which in some cases, is a welcome counterweight.
