Thailand’s government voted to legalize medical cannabis in December, according to The New York Times, becoming the first Asian nation to do so, and a beacon of reform in Southeast Asia, which is known for its especially draconian drug laws.

On the 31st of August, a federal appeals court ruled that a federal ban on the sale of guns to medical marijuana card holders does not violate the second amendment rights of cardholders. The ruling will apply to states within the jurisdiction of the 9th US. Circuit Court of Appeals, which includes nine western states such as Washington, Oregon, and California.
The Compassionate Care Act was signed into law in July of 2014, amidst a national political climate that seemed to indicate increasingly relaxed views towards both medical and recreational cannabis. A number of western states (Colorado, Oregon, and Washington), as well as the District of Columbia, had recently legalized recreational cannabis, and it seemed that New York might be poised to be one of the first eastern states to put these new national attitudes into law.
