Spliffin is a Los Angeles based cannabis company with a focus on concentrates and vaporizer technology, and a commitment to “safety, purity, and potency,” according to their website. They use a multistage, solvent-free CO2 extraction process, and their products are lab tasted with the results available on their website. A secondary refinement process removes impurities, and every batch faces quality control tests, according to the company.

For old-school cannabis fans, all the discussion of terpenes may seem like a trend that just came out of nowhere, but you’ll almost certainly hear about them more and more in the next few years. Wrapping your head around the idea of terpenes is the best way to make sure you can get the right cannabis strain for your needs.
In recent years, public interest in “the other cannabinoid,” Cannabidiol, or CBD, has grown exponentially. Arguably, a greater amount of attention for the non-psychoactive CBD and its powerful medical properties has been one of main factors in society taking a fresh look at cannabis, and in turn, cannabis law. With potent anti-seizure properties, CBD is capable of combating conditions like epilepsy while other medications consistently fail. If that weren’t enough, CBD fights insomnia and even counteracts many of THC’s side effects - such as anxiety and memory loss. In fact, this is merely a small sample of CBD’s potential medical benefits, which also include the ability to combat PTSD, cancer, and brain damage in stroke and traumatic brain injury victims.
The benefits of vaporizing have won over broad portions of the cannabis community in recent years. Though modern vaping didn’t really start until the 1980s, the technique may in fact go back thousands of years, to reports of ancient peoples putting cannabis flower on heated stones, which offered a steady temperature. We’re only now rediscovering what vaping has to offer, as a healthier and more nuanced approach to cannabis consumption.
Lola Lola cartridges come from cannabis grown in Mendocino County. The brand is known for their eye-catching, approachable packaging design - which has art that reminds me of a happier, peaceful, non-disturbing version of a Hieronymus Bosch painting - but my interest revolves around the “first generation, single-origin terpenes” the brand reintroduces to their CO2 oil.
Pre-filled vape cartridges have enjoyed a boom in recent years that shows no signs of stopping. This means cartridge makers have had an incentive to branch out, appealing to specific demands and niches of the market. Some cartridges focus on terpene content, or - the increasingly in-demand - CBD content, while yet others take innovative approaches like using aromatherapy oils like lavender to create a custom taste and terpene profile. Bumblebee cartridges in particular satisfy a timeless, and recurring demand in the cannabis market: raw THC content.
Sonoma county based AYA cartridges takes an interesting approach to marketing their pre-filled oil cartridges. Each of their four, functionally named cartridge offerings combine two strains to produce an oil for different uses, occupying all spots on the spectrum from sativa to hybrid to indica. Along with available shipping to anywhere in California via The Goddess Delivers, AYA offers a 90 percent sativa ‘Awaken’ cartridge made of two sativa strains, a sativa leaning ‘Inspire’, an indica leaning ‘Relax’, and finally an indica/CBD combination ‘Slumber’ cartridge.
The problem with learning to love vaping pre-filled oil cartridges is that your selection is immediately cut down to a fraction of what it is when just smoking flower. Even the best dispensaries may have half a dozen brands tops at any given time, with maybe 2 or 3 strains available from the brands that bother to offer separate strains. Add to this the fact most companies add solvents like the questionable propylene glycol, and sometimes the more decidedly harmful ethylene glycol and the selection seems even more miniscule.
Absolute Xtracts battery and cartridges are far and away my favorite vapor pen products I’ve used. Not only was the oil high quality, but the battery is especially impressive, and the cartridges themselves are extremely sturdy and user friendly. The quality of vapor pens is truly not the same across the board. I’ve used batteries that seem to last only a few hits, or lose life over time, or just feel too lightweight and junky. This choice matters, so I’ll explain why this my favorite after using a handful of different vape pen products. If you’re not looking to get into vape pens, I’d ask why not?
