A Tribe Called Quest
Released This Day In... 1993
Sitting right around 95 beats per minute, the deliciously bass-heavy third LP from A Tribe Called Quest was much like Michael Jordan’s third championship with the Chicago Bulls. Albeit three years earlier, Midnight Marauders made it three consecutive trips to the Finals for Tribe, and three rings. Today it turns 24.
It’s hard to say which album from the Queens natives is the best, but needless to say, they seem to have found their sweet spot with Marauders. The result of the chemistry the trio had on this third album, along with the maturation and refinement of their messages and sound, is an album that would shape the DNA of music and culture for the next two decades. A beacon of positivity and light, some of the most memorable lines and grooves in hip hop history are on this album.
